What Is Hydrographics?
Hydrographics is a process where an existing part or product can receive a custom or new finish. It is also known as water transfer printing, camo-dipping, hydro-imaging or aqua-graphics. There are currently over 1000 different patterns/films to choose from that range from camo to skulls and anything in between. The process starts with preparing your part for the refinishing. Next a polyvinyl film containing your pattern (which is essentially ink) is floated on top of a vat of water. The water acts as the medium to transfer your print/film onto your part or product. Upon placement of the film in the water an activator is then applied to release the print overlay from the polyvinyl backing. This means that the ink is now ready to transfer to your part or product. We then “dip” your part into the print transferring the print/ink to your part. Final stages include an automotive urethane clear coat finish to create a durable final product. The process will personalize your part or product while adding protection and value.
So what can be coated or dipped with these cool graphics? The rule of thumb is- if it can be painted then it can be dipped. Common items include guns, bows, automotive items (bumpers, mirrors, dashes, engine parts, intakes and valve covers), motorcycle fenders, tanks and helmets, hard hats, even household items such as picture frames and ceiling fan blades. You are only limited by your imagination!ok
